This past weekend we celebrated Ty's 5th birthday. I'm still in a bit of shock that he was born 5 whole years ago. I look back at pictures of him and already I'm having a tough time remembering what he was like as a baby and a toddler. He is now such a mature little man with the most amazing imagination. He would spend all day dressing up as different characters if he was home and has great story lines that he likes to act out. Like most 5 year old boys he loves anything his dad seems interested in so last night he told me that when he gets to be daddy's age he wants to have his party at a UFC event- just watching though- he doesn't want to fight. I told him I'd try to remember that.

From the moment he could speak, which was pretty early, he would tell us the most amazing stories about going to Africa with his grand-dad and running into lions and elephants...his grand-dad was a made up person btw - we don't call any of the grandparents "grand-dad" and of course he has never been to Africa. His Montesorri teachers have told us that he entertains the whole class telling them stories about his adventures and the kids believe every word he says. lol!

Once Vanessa was born his sweet personality blossomed even more as he became the most loving big brother. He LOVES to play with her and has so much patience for her. They go to camp together right now and he takes her hand and walks her to their group. The counsellors have told us that whenever she cries he will run and hug her and gets her to stop crying every time.

He still loves to cuddle with mommy in the morning - which I love - and every night before bed he likes to talk about his day and asks me and Iain to tell him about our days. He really listens too and will ask us questions while we are talking to him. It's just so sweet.
Once Troy came along he seemed to have matured over night. He wanted a baby brother so badly since he already had a sister. I was pretty relieved when they announced "it's a boy!" after delivering Troy. Right away Ty was a loving big brother wanting to hold his brother and help in any way he could . Now that Troy has started to walk Ty loves to get him to walk to him and cheers him on all the way.

Ty is involved in so many sports. This summer he tried T-ball for the first time and really enjoyed it. This past Sunday was the banquet where kids on the team were given a trophy.
Earlier this summer he played lacrosse and last summer he played soccer. In the winter he in on the ice at least a few times a week with hockey and powerskating. He is also in swimming lessons most of the year. He really enjoys all of the activities he is in - he just loves to be with other kids. His birthday party this year was a "Mini olympics" theme and after weeks of planning his party outside it poured on us and we had to do the whole thing in our house. The kids didn't seem to mind and once it stopped raining they were actually able to get out on the trampoline for a jump so everyone was happy.

As we start into Ty's 6th year I can only imagine what he has in store for us. Every year we see more and more of his unique personality come out. It has been so much fun getting to know this little person and such an honour for me to be his mother. I don't know how I got so lucky... He is such a wonderful little boy.
