We are back from our second annual "no kids included" vacation. Last year we did NYC for 3 days (2 nights) and this year we decide to take in Chicago. We were not disappointed. What a beautiful city!! We arrived Wednesday morning at 730am, dropped our bags off at the hotel and looked immediately for somewhere to eat breakfast. We spent our first day just walking around admiring the buildings and taking in the city. We did the architectural boat tour- which was surprisingly very interesting, we had deep dish pizza for lunch and even snuck an afternoon nap in - we had been up since 4am to catch our flight... That evening we did a bit of shopping then had a light dinner and enjoyed the view from the top of the John Hancock Tower before heading to bed at 10pm!! Are we old or what?? lol!
(Iain is always so entertaining ... lol!)
We enjoyed a gorgeous afternoon at the Navy Pier having lunch, riding the Ferris wheel and Swings.
We did some more shopping along the Magnificent Mile then enjoyed what we both decided was the BEST steak we had ever had in our entire lives at a place called Gibsons. We spent that evening walking around the city and who should go past us in a horse drawn carriage but VINCE VAUGHN!! I was so tempted to follow him but decided to leave the man alone. I do love Vince Vaughn though so that was a definite highlight for me. Again we were back at the hotel ready for bed before 11pm. LOL! We can not say we didn't get enough sleep on this trip anyway.
Day 3 we planned to concentrate on shopping. After breakfast we hit the Macy's on State Ave. What a great store!!! We enjoyed sampling some very different things at The Taste of Chicago for lunch, took one last stroll down the Magnificent Mile, ate far too much at The Cheesecake factory then headed to the airport and we were home and kissing the kids goodnight by 11pm.
It was a fantastic mini vacation in a gorgeous city. Iain actually said that if he had to move anywhere he would consider Chicago... Next year we are planning to see what Boston has to offer.
